PokeZeno (Wendi Pokemon Design)

My brothers and I have always enjoyed Pokémon, it's one of the game franchises that we unanimously enjoy. To say it's a big part of our lives is an understatement. (We still play Pokémon GO fervently to this day.)

However we also shared this sentiment with some of our old childhood friends whom we lived on the same neighborhood with, and we took advantage of the social aspect that these games offered. And so a small street called Zeno was essentially Pokémon Central.

Over the years I became aware of Pokémon-inspired fan games and ROM hacks, but I had little to no idea of how to actually create anything like it. It did not stop me from playing a few and they felt just like new Pokémon games with their own spin.

After having an impromptu tour of some of our memory-filled locales around our home city with my brothers, I was inspired to create a ROM hack featuring these spots and inside jokes from our youth. I thought at best that this may serve as a good birthday present for them.

Speaking of which, here's a fun fact; my brothers and I all share the same birthday. Our youngest brother was born five years after my fraternal brother and I. Our then thirteen year old Papillion dog Windy, who I based one of the Pokémon over, died on our birthday a few years ago. So with this ROM hack, I would be giving a tribute to all of us in a sense. Kinda cool if you ask me.

*(Since I'm still working on this project whenever I have the time to (which is admittedly not a lot of time...), I will publish this with the intention of it being a work in progress and update this post whenever I get more work done on it, if I do...)

This is a sketch of my childhood dog turned into a Pokemon. Her name was Windy, so I though Flying/Fairy would fit her typing. She would be a Mythical in this game.

This is the sprite based on the sketch. I made her a shiny color scheme, but I will not show that here to avoid spoiling it! Also I do hope on animating it so as to make her breath life!

I even started to mold her in clay to see what she would look like in our world. She’s got more work to do but she looks promising!

Just for fun, I wondered how Xerces would look like as a Pokemon Trainer sprite. I think it came out okay but faithful and it would be interesting to see how it would look like fully rendered in the game. Challenge accepted!
